Who They Are

The Turbo Sonic machines are kind of like the Ferrari or the Lamborghini in the vibration industry. It is an ultra luxury experience but definitely something not completely out of reach. It is one of the best, if not the best vibration machines you can get on the market today. The Turbo Sonic machines are excellent as they provide some of the smoothest vibrations available in a vibration machine using sound wave energy. Compared to the mechanical machines, Sonic movements are significantly smoother and not rough on the joints and skeletal body of the user. Standing on the platform, you will be able to feel every part of your body jiggle, even up to your cheeks. The whole body vibration experience is different from Triplanar in that it does not give you a headache or head vibration. Just a very harmonious resonance.

The Turbosonic machines uses a speaker-style system with new magnetic circuits that converts electrical signals into sound waves that get passed to you. Sound waves are smooth wave forms, compared to mechanical which are step wave forms. This allows the vibration that the sound wave creates to be extremely smooth. One amazing feature is that the Turbosonic comes with a microphone jack that allows you to use a music device (ie. iPod, MP3 player) with the machine. This allows you to use the music to generate the vibrations to power the machine. You can imagine those LED tshirts that you buy that responds to music and lights up according to the beat, they glow brighter as the bass and beat gets louder and louder, it is the same principle with the Turbo Sonic. One exclusive feature as a result, you can use custom weight-loss or muscle building digital music through your Turbo Sonic machine. Imagine running a Tabata routine through the machine, the results are absolutely fantastic!

Sonic Life is the Newer Turbo Sonic

Sonic Life took over Turbo Sonic and had a few machines of their own and branded it under the Sonix name. There is the Sonix Personal, Sonix Pulsation and Sonix Professional. Being new, the sonic technologies developed were more advanced than the older Turbo Sonic X5 and X7 such as the digital music players and the updated frequency generators. Turbo Sonic chugged along nicely with newer features and new machines, unlike Theravibe (which pretty much went backrupt and no longer sold or serviced). As a technology matures, the cost of production drops and Turbo Sonic is great at controlling the costs with their newer machines offering better and better features at a lower price point than the initial machines that were brought to market. It is no longer prohibitive and if you absolutely need the best, I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase one.

Sonic Machine Differences

The differences between the lower priced units and the higher prices one are the duty cycles of the machine and the rated usage. The more expensive, commercial style ones (Turbosonic X5, X7, Sonix Professional) are larger, heavier, and support heavier users with components with are rated for longer use. Whereas, the residential models (Turbosonic Ovation, Sonix Personal, Sonix Pulsation) are lighter weight and aren’t designed for long usages. Reason for this is heat generation and dissipation. The frequency generators run hot so higher grade chips are selected to be put in the more expensive models, and the lower grade chips end up in the residential models. Higher grade chips run at greater frequency whereas the lower grade chips also run at this frequency with the side effect of a warmer chip. This doesn’t affect the quality of either machine, just that it is not recommended to use a residential grade unit as a commercial grade as the machines shut off prematurely if overheated and you’ll have to let it cool off before turning it back on. We are talking about a usage of about 3-4 hours continuously, so for every day use, there should be no issues running into this.

The original TurboSonic X5, Sonix Personal and Pulsation uses a single voice coil to drive the platform whereas the newer and more powerful models have two voice coils (X7, Sonix Professional) and has a really wide frequency range. The differences between single coil and dual coil is in the maximum weight capacity and operation time. Dual coil would have two separate frequency controllers and so makes the unit run cooler when the chips don’t need to be stacked too dense. Most commercial units are run on two coils for continuous usage.

Mechanical machines tend to have a limitation of about 5-6 Hz at the low settings for lymphatic drainage, but the sonic machines can go down as low as 3 Hz–a number no other machines can beat. The Sonix Personal is the only sonic machine with a frequency range of 4-40 Hz, while all the others (X5, X7, Pulsation, Professional) all have a 3-50 Hz range.

You’ll probably notice that the machine weight for the sonic machines are quite low compared to the mechanical machines on the market. Reason for this is the absence of the oscillation vibration that tends to rock the machine back and forth. The Sonix Personal is a little under 90 lbs but do not have the same problems of other low weight mechanical machines. The machine is safely grounded even if you were putting it into its maximum intensity and frequency setting–this is how smooth and effective a sonic machine is. The maximum weight supported is about 265 lb and the next machine up is the Pulsation at 286 lbs. If you are on the heavier side and you want to use free weights, it can easily add another 30-40 lbs, just make sure you are within the safe loading limit. For the greatest capacity, go with the X5, X7 or Sonix Professional, these go upto 330, 507, or 551 lbs.

Frequency and Intensity

All of the sonic models show the exact frequency that you are running the machine at (save for the Sonix Personal), which solves the guessing game in wondering what the Hz you are actually using it at. All the models have some really cool programs where you can select to target specific areas of the body. You can actually set the machine to target the abs, and a certain combination of the frequency and intensity will be adjusted to send the vibrations towards the tummy area. Or you can opt for a full body shake that will jitter your entire body upto your cheeks. The programs are convenient and really helps you focus on trouble areas and taking out all the guess work. There are 99 intensity settings for all the machines and a Hz setting of 3-50 Hz (Sonix Personal is 4-40 Hz). The intensity is almost like the speed control, the higher it is, the bigger the waves the machine generates, and bigger the vibration. The Turbosonic X5, X7 and Sonix Pulsation and Professional all have a L and H mode. The L mode is responsible for frequencies from 3-25 Hz, whereas the H is responsible for 25-50 Hz. Different frequency settings trigger different things for the body and the sonic machines pretty much covers the entire useful frequency Hz range for most health concerns you can think of.
