Hypervibe G17 Pro Review

The G17 Pro is Hypervibe’s top of the line home use unit. It is a full sized machine that can generate an earth shattering G-force of 17.3 Gs! One of the highest available for oscillation units. There is a very nice 9″ LCD display that can help guide newer users through a wide range of pre-installed programs. You basically select the program that you like, and follow the on screen picture and replicate the same position or exercise on the platform. This is the only full sized unit in their line (with a column and upright tower).

The machine comes in 2 separate boxes, the base unit and tower. Assembly is fairly quick and easy as the machine assembles with 8 bolts. 4 for the bolting the tower to the base unit and 4 for mounting the console and control panel to the tower. Machine is packed well with edge protectors stapled to the boxes and giant styrofoams inside that cushion the machine and fills in all excess space. The machine itself is a very handsome white with a black platform, console and handlebars. Handle bars come out of the side of the machine and slope upwards. It is very minimalist and works fine for most standing exercises but I do find it hard to grab onto when you are sitting on the platform as the arms and shoulders have the flex all the way back to reach it. When fully assembled, the machine weighs about 170 lbs and feels firm and solid. As long as your adjust the levelers at the bottom of the machine, it is sure to be grounded to the floor and won’t move when you are standing on the platform.

The platform itself is 21″ x 13.2″ which is slightly smaller than their portable units. I think this is due to the high Gs that the machine creates, you simply cannot stand too far to the edge or you will hurt yourself. The size is comfortable but taller users with longer legs or larger feet may find the platform to be a bit restrictive. Each platform is marked to show the amplitude based on where you are standing. This is useful when you are using the platform with the built-in pre-set programs and exercises. The platform is marked: H M L L M H, where H stands for High, M medium, L low. H represents about 6-7 mm, M 4-5 mm, and L 2-3 mm peak to peak movement of the plate. The G force will vary depending on where you stand on the platform and what frequency you set the machine at, which are all conveniently shown on the LCD display.

Example: LCD Display, Exercise Program

The console is a 9″ LCD color display and shows the frequency, G-force, timer, and current time. If you are using a pre-set program, the display will also show the program and exercises that you are supposed to do. There are a total of 5 groups of pre-set programs: Active Aging, Weight Loss & Fitness, Women’s Health & Beauty, Performance & Recovery, Relieve & Revive. Within each group, there are multiple programs you can select. Each program puts together 3-8 different exercises ranging from 4-20 minutes and can be Low, Medium or High Intensity depending on your poison. This is quite useful for new users to vibration training as you can follow exactly on the screen what you should be doing, where you should be standing and not have to worry about fiddling with the frequency setting. The machine will automatically adjust these for you so all you need to worry about is perfect your form!

Manual mode is also allowed and is designed for more experienced users. You no longer get the exercise displays but you do see the G-force setting for each of the L M H standing positions. The default when you start the unit is 5 Hz and 10 minutes. You can only adjust the frequency in this mode and cannot modify the time as you are using the unit. In order to adjust the time, you have to modify the pre-set settings by going into the programming mode everytime. This is annoying if you vary your workouts for 3 minutes on some days, 5 minutes on others, and maybe 12 on special days. Hopefully in the next revisions, they allow you to adjust the time as you see fit without kicking the machine into programming mode to redo the default time setting.

The hand straps that come with the machine are the stiff nylon types. These are most desirable as they can transfer the vibration from the platform from the base platform to the upper body without needing to go on your knees to do any exercises. There are 4 holes in the platform to where you can insert the twist lock anchors on the hand straps. All you do is insert and twist. You can’t get any easier than that. 2 holes are at the top, and 2 at the bottom. You can mount the straps as you see fit depending on what part of your upper body you want to work on. Just make sure to remove the hand straps when you aren’t using it as it can produce excess rattling sounds and vibration.

The Hypervibe G17 Pro is probably not your quietest machine so you’ll have to take this into consideration should your location where you are putting this unit is sound sensitive. Your neighbors may hate you. The G17 can be quite loud especially at the higher frequencies.

Hypervibe also manufacturers the Galaxy line but that is more for high volume commercial uses as the G17 Pro can easily be used in a smaller clinic with low to medium flow customers.

Overall, I think the Hypervibe G17 Pro is a fairly well designed unit with many convenient technology built into the unit. The preset programs will help newer users of vibration training and also professionals or athletes that would want to use this for muscle strengthening and building purposes. There are some minor issues with the interface but if you are in the market for the highest G-force machine, the G17 Pro won’t disappoint.
